Old Pictures of Penang

Some place in Penang, but looks very familiar indeed.
I'm guessing it's Perak Road.

Police HQ in Penang Road. The building is still there.
Cute bus by the way.

This was what Tanjong Tokong used to look like,
looks like a good place to camp. Today it's stacked
with expensive condominiums, who would have
thought of that

Old Ferries. Now our ferries are much bigger and
with double decker carriages.

Hey the clock tower is still standing today.

Cold Storage is also still in Penang but, where is
this building ?

Penang road with bicycles, now it's filled with cars,
cars and more cars.

Cathay Cinema @ Penang Road (Now MYDIN).
I actually used to watch shows there, like Pretty Woman,
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

HI, THE ROAD IS PENANG ROAD FOR YR INFO AND ITS NOT PERAK ROAD.. I HAD A UNCLE WHO RUNS A VERY LUCRATIVE NEWSPAPER / MAGAZINE STALL JUST BELOW BOSTAN BAR AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTO. THE ROAD ON THE RIGHT IS PRAGIN ROAD, WHERE PRAGIN MALL IS NOW.. THERE WAS A RIVER THERE..AND ON THE LEFT IS BURMA ROAD.. THIS JUNCTION SHOWN IN THE PHOTO WAS A VERY POPULAR PENANG RENDEVOUS MUCH MORE POPULAR THAN GURNEY DRIVE.. IT ATTRACTS ACROBATS,SNAKE CHARMERS, MAGICIANS FROM ALL OVER WHO WENT THERE TO PERFORM IN AN OPEN COMPOUND INFRONT OF BOSTON BAR. CAPITOL THEATRE WAS LOCATED ON THE BTM RIGHT. THE JUNCTION SHOWN WAS THE BUSIEST AREA IN GEORGETOWN. PENANG'S FIRST SUPERMARKETS WERE ALL LOCATED AROUND THIS AREA.. GAMA BEING THE FIRST,THEN COMES THE ORIENTAL, ETC ETC, PENANG'S FAMED CHINESE AND INDIAN RESTAURANT ARE LOCATED ON THE BTM LEFT OF THE PHOTO..THESE RESTAURANTS ARE STILL THERE MINUS THE BUSINESS.
I AM BALA AND CAN BE REACHED AT saicanran@yahoo.co.uk

its not a river...its a big drain...and Gama is not the 1st supermarket in penang. there were pulau pinang supermarket, oriental supermarket, tong aik supermarket, etc before gama.

Yes...I agree with you...many small departmental stores existed before Gama
