Timer for Windows Shutdown?

Ever experienced needing to go out, while your computer is still downloading something or performing a disk defragmenter process while at the same time worried that your PC will blow up leaving it on for too long a period of time because you won't be back after many hours? Well thou shall not worry. There's a solution to this.

1) Creating a Batch File For Shutting down the PC using a timer

How to create?

1.1) Open a new txt file with Notepad

image

1.2) Enter the following commands

image

1.3) Save it as shutdown.bat

image

1.4) Walla you're done. You have officially created a bat program.

image

Well you're not all done yet. You will still need to understand what the code is all about.

For this case let’s say there is another hour (3600 seconds) before the downlaoad finishes and you want the PC to shutdown in 1 1/2 hours. That would be 5400 seconds. So let’s edit the bat file.

1.5) Just right click on the shutdown.bat and click on edit.

image

1.6) You will see this. So just change the value to 5400 and save it.

image

1.7) To run the batch file just double click and you will see this (Below)

image

Walla you have officially ran the batch file for shutting down your PC with the timer.

(You can also run the command in DOS prompt and type shutdown –s –t <time in seconds>.

Walla the system shutdown windows appear. If u need to cancel it whatsoever just type shutdown –a and walla the timer stops.

Complete list of commands

Want to stick this on your car?

Torrent vs. RapidShare

                 image  image

I recently just discovered that the RapidShare community is actually pretty big. I never knew it was so huge till they had forums with thousands of links to download from the RapidShare servers. I have always been using Torrent and seldom used RapidShare. However one question regarding this is who has the upper hand? Is it Torrent the famous P2P service or RapidShare the easy file hosting site? Honestly speaking from my perspective I prefer torrent. Why? The speed is just blazing for me. Like someone mentioned in one of the forums

Torrent eats Rapidshare for breakfast.

For some people RapidShare works for them while for others like me the way to go is Torrent. Come to think about it, it all depends on which works best for the user and what files they can find on Torrent or RapidShare. However honestly speaking I feel safer using RapidShare as I feel the ISPs are not after you coz it is purely FTP. As for Torrent I feel that the ISP may be tracking you and could fine you a whopping RM250k. But after some serious thought do I download LOTS? Neh...I don't think so. There are surely serious downloaders who download non-stop maximizing their bandwidth downloading Gigabytes or even Terabytes of files way way more than me.

But one thing about using Torrent is that our infamous ISP Screamyx is blocking torrent downloads. This is causing downloads for torrents to slow at a crawl. However there are always ways to speed up the connection also known as VPN. As for RapidShare downloads they are not blocked BUT thanks again to our Screamyx downloads speeds are not as fast as it should, not exactly worth it for what we are paying for. But the one question we need to sadly ask is what choice do we have? There is no other ISP but Screamyx.

Passes No more for the Passion World Tour - KL. Gary Ooi (www.garyooi.com) was just asking me for the link for the concert and when I checked at the web site (http://www.268generation.com/worldtour/lowbandwidth/index.php?filename=kualaLumpur-english.xml ) this is what I saw (Below). Too bad Gary maybe next time.

image

It will surely be a very crowded at the Sunway Convention Center and that's 101% for sure. But who knows Gary maybe you could still catch a place or two since there are possibilities of people not collecting their tickets for the concert.

For those not able to attend you can DO SOMETHING...Pray

My weekend PC story........

Corsair XMS2 DHX PC2-6400

Cooler Master 460W

Finally got my Corsair XMS2 DHX. Looks like some future tech RAMS from the future. Well looking at the performance of this RAM it certainly is worth buying this for RM220 for 2 pieces of 1GB. The last time I bought Patriot 1GB RAM was at RM150 per piece. Worst of all is after buying the Patriot Memory my PC started to crash pretty often, but I'm not ruling that the RAM was the culprit to the crashes. Over the weekends I finally got my PC checked out for the root cause to the crashes, the doctor found the problem to be at the power supply, which causes the restarts and crashes but this would cost a bomb to my pocket as I would need to fork out almost RM200 for a good power supply by Cooler Master (460W). Well my PC is an important part to my life on this earth, I needed it to be fixed as soon as possible and so the extra money spent on it is pretty worth it. And thanks to my itchy hands I couldn't resist getting the RAMs, but it is all worth it. Thanks to Jesus for providing me with more than enough to enjoy the life I'm having.

It's a Friday again. One of the best days of the week where after a long work week you can finally look forward towards the weekend. How nice if everyday was a weekend though. But we need to work to earn a living and that's part of life.So if you're not working and still enjoying the everyday life be thankful. Enjoy your weekends.

Any similarities between this 2 pictures? Don't they look pretty similar.......                                                                      I saw this picture a few months ago in Genting Highlands and noticed the similarities between Sharon and this model.

How dumb of me?

I've been complaining of network slowness this couple of weeks but it never occurred to me to ever reset my modem and router. Worst is I'm a networking guy and my job is to take care of the company's network. Day in day out I work with network equipment but in my own home it never occurred for me to ever reset my modem. Now that I've reset the modem the Internet connection is much much better. Hallelujah Praise the Lord. So next time if you're facing problem with your Internet connection it may be the modem. Don't just switch it off and on but reset the modem poking the hole in the modem and then reentering the settings such as the username and the password, it may just speed up things for you.

Don’t Look To Your Faith, Look To Jesus

Hebrews 12:2
2looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith...

If you are sick, you must know that you are already healed because of the finished work of Christ. Don’t ask, “Do I have enough faith to be healed? Do I have the right kind of faith to be healed? What if I am lacking in faith?” You are focusing on yourself and your faith, instead of Christ and His finished work.

You should be asking, “Did Jesus really take away this sickness? If He did, He must have done a perfect work.” In other words, fix your eyes on Jesus and His perfect work.

AB Simpson, who lived in the 19th century, wrote an article entitled, Himself. In it, he mentioned his exhausted nervous system, and broken down heart which could have proved fatal any time. So he sought the Lord for healing. God showed him Matthew 8:17, which says that Jesus “Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses”.

AB Simpson said that though he believed that Jesus had borne away his sickness, he saw many hindrances which stood between him and his healing. And they all boiled down to one thing — his preoccupation with his faith! He had believed that if only he had the “right” kind of faith, he would receive his healing instantly.

He eventually came to the realisation that he had to remove that last hindrance — his focus on his faith — and just rest in the finished work of Christ. That revelation marked his complete recovery from his sickness.

When you ask yourself, “Do I have enough faith?” you have already put faith as a hindrance between you and Jesus’ finished work. The more you focus on your faith, the more faith slips away. But if you focus on the finished work of Christ and see God’s grace towards you, God sees that as faith! Without realising it, faith is there in your heart to believe that you will not die of what Christ has already borne away for you completely, and you will see your miracle manifest!

Special thanks to Joseph Prince

Hong Kong Trip Number 2

This is my 2nd trip to HK. It was really fun this time, it was sort of like a honeymoon but wouldn't exactly say it is a honeymoon but then again it was a really fun and itchy trip. Why was it an itchy trip ? On the night we were suppose to leave somehow I got some allergy on my body which cause itchiness all over my body, worst is it started to develop those mosquito bites type of things all over my body. It was only on the 3rd day of our trip that I went to the pharmacist to get some medicine to stop the itch, but it was only a temporary fix. Sad to say I still have the itch on me right now, but it's much better compared to last week. Went to see the specialist doctor and spent almost RM400 to get my blood tested. But I know I will be fine. Sharon has been worried sick for me. But I know Jesus will heal me. Hallelujah. Anyway back to the trip we basically went to many of the same places we went the 1st time. But this time we really tried more of the local food and also went sightseeing more this time around plus we had some local adventures with the locals.  You can head over to sharonlee0724.blogspot.com to see the pictures of the local HK food. When we were about to set our feet on HK soil the captain of the ferry made an announcement saying that there is heavy traffic in HK waters, I thought this wasn't normal as the first time I was there there weren't any traffic around the harbor, but once we got closer we started to actually see lots of boats and vessels all over the HK harbor and they were on STRIKE due to petrol and diesel price increase. Too bad we didn't have any pictures of that. Wow we were right in the middle of a "STRIKE". But it was a peaceful protest which was a good thing. Anyway it's getting boring writing this so let the pictures roll.

That's cool, when can Malaysia have one?

Inside Hong Kong Shopping Centers

Shopping in HK....one word to describe it...expensive. But honestly some stuff are pretty cheap. If you're considering branded goods, it will certainly cost you a bomb. But one thing I found out is that electronic products and computer related stuff are relatively cheap. I bought a SD / USB 1GB card for only RM20 plus. That's really cheap. Also i got myself an eneloop battery pack which costs me RM104 which is also considerably cheap comparing to Malaysian prices.

Hong King Disneyland Again

Well this this round we basically visited Disneyland for the opening of the Small World park. It was nice. The rest of the rides we have actually visited before it sort of became boring for us to visit other rides and parks. But we most certainly enjoyed coming back to Disneyland and remembering the days when Sharon and I first came here during winter when the weather was way cooler compared to now and it was Sharon's first time to Disneyland.

Marching in Hong Kong..? July 1st

There were thousands of people marching on the streets of Hong Kong on our 4th day at HK. Apparently there was a big march in the streets of HK. Almost 47,000 people participated in Hong Kong's July 1 march for democracy and freedom. At that time we were in a shopping mall and we suddenly saw thousands of people suddenly walking past the mall entrance. Just imagine if they walked into the mall. *Yikes*

More info about the July 1st March

The Hong Kong July 1 march (Chinese: 七一遊行) is an annual protest rally led by the Civil Human Rights Front since the 1997 handover on the HKSAR establishment day. However, it was only in 2003 when it drew large public attention by opposing the legislation of the Basic law Article 23. The 2003 protest, with 500,000 marchers, was the largest protest ever seen in Hong Kong since the 1997 handover.[1] Prior to this, only the May 21, 1989 pro-democracy protest drew more people with 1.5 million marchers in Hong Kong sympathizing with the participants of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.[2] The introduction of Article 23 legislation was temporarily shelved because of the protest. Since then, the July 1 marches have been held every year as a channel to demand for democracy, universal suffrage, rights of minorities, protection offreedom of speech and a variety of other political concerns.

Thanks to Wikipedia again for the info.

Hong Kong Street Walk

What we enjoyed is walking along the streets of HK with the different stalls like the "Pasar Malam" in Malaysia. However the so called stalls set up along the roads are certainly very interesting to experience the feel of HK.
