Torrent vs. RapidShare

                 image  image

I recently just discovered that the RapidShare community is actually pretty big. I never knew it was so huge till they had forums with thousands of links to download from the RapidShare servers. I have always been using Torrent and seldom used RapidShare. However one question regarding this is who has the upper hand? Is it Torrent the famous P2P service or RapidShare the easy file hosting site? Honestly speaking from my perspective I prefer torrent. Why? The speed is just blazing for me. Like someone mentioned in one of the forums

Torrent eats Rapidshare for breakfast.

For some people RapidShare works for them while for others like me the way to go is Torrent. Come to think about it, it all depends on which works best for the user and what files they can find on Torrent or RapidShare. However honestly speaking I feel safer using RapidShare as I feel the ISPs are not after you coz it is purely FTP. As for Torrent I feel that the ISP may be tracking you and could fine you a whopping RM250k. But after some serious thought do I download LOTS? Neh...I don't think so. There are surely serious downloaders who download non-stop maximizing their bandwidth downloading Gigabytes or even Terabytes of files way way more than me.

But one thing about using Torrent is that our infamous ISP Screamyx is blocking torrent downloads. This is causing downloads for torrents to slow at a crawl. However there are always ways to speed up the connection also known as VPN. As for RapidShare downloads they are not blocked BUT thanks again to our Screamyx downloads speeds are not as fast as it should, not exactly worth it for what we are paying for. But the one question we need to sadly ask is what choice do we have? There is no other ISP but Screamyx.

hello,
I found this search engine which has more than 2000000 links in it's database and growing rapidly.
another benefit of this search engine is that it shows the original source of the file, this way if the file is password protected we can get it easily.
Visit the below link to find it for your self:

great rapidshare search engine

RapidShare has so many things above torrent, people can argue and argue about this topic but it all comes down to solid facts such as:

The bad things with torrent:

1. You are "seeding" (uploading) when you are downloading torrents (at least if you are putting your effort into the community). Related to this, by laws its illegal to upload copyright materials in most countries.

2. Basically everyone can see without any technical requirement who is uploading, from what IP and so on. This makes it easy for ISP´s or anyone to seek you up.

3. ISP´s tend to block torrent ports, and cap the speeds down. This is avoidable using different methods, but then again not everyone who seed for instance know about this limits.

The Good things with Torrent:

1. Its really easy to find what you are looking for, and the major torrent sites are updated by hours or even minutes due to the large community that they hold.

2. Torrent can be fast, and with little technical skills using VPN etc. can be very handy.

The Bad things with Rapidshare:

1. Rapidshare requires more search then torrent searching, that´s fact. Related to this, rapidshare link-sites also require you to register in way to many cases, long and boring process.

2. Rapidshare is not free.

The Good things with Rapidshare:

1. Its as fast as your download rate on your connection is, since rapidshare uses port 80 (of course it depends on the servers you are downloading from etc.). Personally I´ve never experienced bad speed using rapidshare, when I want to watch something I simply get it, it takes minutes to finish.

2. Rapidshare uses port 80 to download meaning the ISP´s cant cap down the speeds, and you´re not uploading anything at all. Meaning, if someone wants to "check" who have downloaded any file off the Rapidshare servers they need court order to be able to overview the log files, as we know this is not as easy as it sounds, and after search online I havent found one case of such thing. Torrents have tons of stories online with lawsuits, warning letters, ISP warning letters etc.

+ + +

As you see I am Rapidshare user, and I would not dream to use Torrents, basically because its easier for anyone to see who is downloading what.

The statements here above are not related to all ISP´s etc. Everything is possible today, and if the ISP wants to cap, block or slow you down in any way they are able to do it. But Rapidshare is simply just like any other website for most of the ISP´s that I have been using, and its way to much trouble for them to make some weeks of work to avoid using services such as that.

Hope this helps someone...
Cheers!
